The Suzuki DF6A outboard engine is the most powerful one of three very similar engines in the Suzuki outboard range, the DF4A: DF5A and DF6.A.
The Suzuki DF6A outboard engine is one of three very similar engines in the Suzuki range: these being the almost identical DF4A, DF5A and DF6A models.
The original Suzuki 6hp DF6 was already a long-standing and well proven engine, with well over a decade in service with many customers around the world. The Suzuki DF6 engine has always been a best seller here at Pennine Marine and the new "go faster" sleek styling of the DF6A model will, we are sure, make it a best seller here in the UK. The Suzuki DF6A is completely restyled, so making it slimmed and sleeker than all of the competitors. However the new DF6 A model, introduced back in 2016 has a new, much sleeker design; reductions in weight and also had the less visible, but very important internal change of having the oil-ways altered. These changes to the already very competent Suzuki 6hp outboard motor meant that the Suzuki DF6A can now be laid down on any one of the three sides, without the risk of oil leaking. To conclude this point - this 6hp engine A model is a great improvement on what was already a very good design of a 6hp engine.
This new model launched in the UK in mid 2016 - the DF6A model - is now only new Suzuki 6hp outboard engine for sale in the UK market in 2018.
Thus the new 2018 DF6A model looks a lot better and sleeker than almost all of it competitors. Whilst it was based on the very well-proven DF6, the Suzuki DF6A was revised "under the hood" to make it a bit lighter (admittedly not much). Accordingly the Suzuki DF6A outboard is now the lightest outboard engine in the 6hp engine class, with the Suzuki DF6A weighting in at just 24kg. The Mercury 6hp and Yamaha 6hp engines both weigh in at a couple of kilos heavier: although we would be the first to admit that this small weight difference makes very little difference in practice. All of the main manufacturers 6hp outboard engines are highy portable - which makes them all far more popular than their far heavier 8hp cousins.
Very importantly, the Suzuki DF6A was revised from the earlier model, so that all the internal oil-ways were changed. This does not sound very important, however it means that this 6hp engine now has "three-way-carriage". Therefore, in simple terms, this new Suzuki 6hp can be laid down on any one of the engine's three sides, without there being a risk of oil leaking out. This modification cured one of the very few "minor issues" that there was with the with the older Suzuki DF 6 model.
The Suzuki DF6A now also has a restyled and far sleeker hood and handle, with better decals (logos). Therefore the new model Suzuki DF6 A looks a very modern.
The Suzuki 6hp engine is steered and controlled by the tiller handle. The Suzuki DF6A is a manual pull start engine, which is incredibly reliable and also easy to pull start. There a simple lever-operated system on the side of the 6hp outboard engine for forward, neutral and reverse gears to control this Suzuki 6hp engine. Again this gear lever is large, easy to use and very positive when changing gear.
The built-in one litre fuel tank on this Suzuki DF6A gives a sensible range for a small 6hp outboard engine. There is however on the DF6A a connector point to plug-in an auxilary fuel tank, a big advanatge over the older model. Either with the main integral fuel tank OR with the (optional extra) auxillary 12 litre fuel tank, the new design of the Suzuki DF6A and Suzuki's typical frugal fuel economy. This gives these Suzuki 6hp engines a good range, which for most applications usually without the need for a second fuel tank in the boat. The auxillary fuel tank and line can be puchased separately. The built-in one litre fuel tank on the DF 6 A gives a sensible range for a small outboard engine. Also these three small Suzuki outboard engines, the 4hp, 5hp and 6hp take full advantages of the advanced engine technology in all their features. They have an eco-friendly, clean burning, fuel-saving modern 4-stroke technology. The Suzuki DF6 has a 1.0 litre integral fuel tank for normal unleaded petrol. With the frugal fuel economy this gives these DF6 A engines a good range without the need for a second fuel tank in the boat. However there is a connector port provided for the option of connecting a optional second fuel tank and line in the boat. This can then be used for extended range operations. In practice this is rarely used, except by commercial operators, or occasionally the more adventureous boaters.
The standard propeller on the Suzuki DF6A outboard engine is alloy.
Ease of operation and handling ranked very highly in the design criteria for the Suzuki DF4A, DF5A and DF6A. Also these three small Suzuki outboard engines take full advantages of the advanced engine technology in all their features. Overall the DF6A has a eco-friendly, clean burning, fuel-saving modern 4-stroke engine, using the latest outboard technology. User friendly features of the Suzuki DF6AS include that the tiller handle is mounted on the steering bracket, thus allowing the operator to sit well forward. This improves weight distribution and balance in a small boat. The Suzuki DF6A has a 180 degree steering, providing good manoeuvrability even in shallow and restricted waters.
The Suzuki DF6 A has a large carrying handle. Coupled with their light weight, this makes the Suzuki DF6A a popular choice for the 6hp portable outboard engine market.
