Visiting us in Ilkley - other nearby attractions
Many of our customers travel a long way to see us here at Pennine Marine. Whilst visiting us, why not visit some of the other attractions in the area.
The historic town of Skipton, where were based for thiry yaers before October 2018, has a remarkably well preserved medieval castle, a Norman church, several other old buildings and the busy canal junction. Skipton has lots of independent shops, many specialising in outdoor pursuits, and numerous restaurants. On most days of the week there is a thriving market in the cobbled High Street. However no less than three World Heritage Sites are all within ten miles of Ilkley;
- Bolton Abbey – a ruined medieval abbey, all set within a stunning landscape.
- Saltaire – the Victorian new town, with the huge mill and workers village.
- Malham Cove- Britain’s largest and completely natural stone amphitheatre.
Within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, there are quite simply rolling miles of stunning scenery and numerous tourist attractions. Within the Dales, we particularly recommend Grassington for its lovely village atmosphere, several great restaurants and its quirky arty shops.
There are also four national parks within an hour’s drive of us - The Yorkshire Dales, The Lake District, The North Yorkshire Moors and the Peak District. To the south of Pennine Marine is Bonte Country, with steep sided valleys and the picture postcard village of Haworth, the background scenery for the “Railway Children” film. To the west is the Peddle Valley (however that is in Lancashire………...and we live in the border town……… so the least said the better)
